Meet Dr Sophie Yan! Visiting us from Sydney, Sophie is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR) and the Ageing Futures Institute, based at the UNSW Business School.
The purpose of her visit is to meet with our Senior Research Fellow Dr Daniela Andrei and members of CEPAR's Curtin University team to collaborate on a multidisciplinary project, looking at age discrimination in the HILDA dataset.
Sophie also had the opportunity to present her research at our Tuesday Research Seminar, where discussed the relationship between actual air pollution in China and residents' satisfaction with air quality.
Like many others who are new to Perth, Sophie was most excited to meet quokkas, dubbed the "world's happiest animals". We look forward to a day when we can bring Sophie to click some happy pictures with them, hopefully in the not-too-distant future!
⭐️Tell me a bit about yourself?
I am an economist who does empirical research in health economics and ageing, with a focus on policy evaluation.
⭐️What are you currently doing at CTWD ?
I am visiting Dr Daniela Andrei at FOWI and working with her on our multidisciplinary collaborative project. We aim to investigate the impacts and determinants of age discrimination by using HILDA data in Australia. It will be the very first one on this topic that uses HILDA data.
⭐How did you find the experience?
I feel it is an institute with many friendly researchers who are open-minded.
⭐️If you were a book or a movie, what would it be?
Probably in transition from Kiki's Delivery Service to Porco Rosso
⭐️One thing not many people know about you?
I love exploring cities/towns on foot, but I don’t particularly like hiking
