    CTWD's new FIFO research report found much can be done for the mental health and well-being of F

    Sketches of Work Design by Lynne Chapman Our new research report to help improve the mental health and well-being of FIFO workers has found a third, 33 per cent, experience high levels of psychological distress compared to only 17 per cent of non-FIFO workers. The research report, Impact of FIFO work arrangements on the mental health and well-being of FIFO workers, was funded by the Mental Health Commission and is one of the most comprehensive FIFO research studies undertaken

    The Centre for Transformative Work Design’s Dr Laura Fruhen participated in a panel discussion on FIFO work at the State Theatre last week. The panel brought together experienced FIFO worker and mum Megan Harrison, Ngala Community educator Stephen Gallagher, and People solutions Director Mark Greenwood.     Doing Time: The Work Design of Fremantle Prisoners

    This weekend, one of the Centre Post Docs and a holidaying Dutch Scholar, Professor Maria Tims, took time out to explore the underground tunnels at Fremantle Prison. We learned how the tunnels were excavated from Limestone by prisoners in the 1800s, to provide water to Fremantle. Prisoners were forced to 'work' underground for long hours every day excavating tunnels. They had no shoes or safety equipment, and had to wade through water which was sometimes up to their neck. It

    Third Post-Doc in!

    Fresh from the UK, Dr. Caroline Knight joined the team on 29th May 2017. She completed her PhD in December 2016 from Sheffield University Management School. Her PhD investigated the role and effectiveness of interventions to increase work engagement in organisations in which she conducted a meta-analysis of the effect of interventions on work engagement (published in the Journal of Organizational Behaviour; to read the paper click here).
